The son of Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) deputy Faruk Bal has been released from custody pending trial after severely injuring a woman and her child in a car accident, CNNTürk reported today.

Bal's son, Türkmen Ali Bal, was driving his father from a party congress in the Central Anatolian province of Eskişehir to Ankara yesterday when he hit Melek Oğuz and her son, Sefa Oğuz, who were crossing the road near Eskişehir's 71 Evler neighborhood at around 6 p.m.

The injured mother and child were rushed to Eskişehir Osmangazi University Hospital while Bal was taken to a police station in Eskişehir's Kurtuluş district, where he testified about the accident.

A public prosecutor later ordered the release of Bal, who will reportedly stand trial on charges of "causing injury due to negligence."

Melek and Sefa Oğuz remained in critical condition, according to reports.
