A Turkish man was arrested Nov. 23 for his alleged involvement in the murder of nine Afghan migrants in the northwestern province of Edirne near the Bulgarian border.

The bodies of nine Afghans, including five children, were found in a rural area near the border. They were initially thought to have died due to cold weather, but it has been revealed that they were shot with a rifle.

Four people, identified only by their initials O.T., A.F., L.F., E.K., were detained as part of the investigation into the murders.

E.K. was arrested by the police as part of the investigation; however, he reportedly accused another suspect, who is still being sought, over the murders. Three of the suspects were released after giving their testimonies.

The nine victims are thought to have been from two families, and the five children were aged between two and 13. They had reportedly come to Edirne from the province of Kahramanmaraş.

Their bodies were found in the village of Budakdoğanca in the Kırçeşme district of Edirne on April 17.

The fifth suspect is still being searched for. His family reported him missing several months ago.
