Eskişehirspor player Ediz Bahtiyaroğlu died after suffering a heart attack in his home in the Central Anatolian province of Eskişehir yesterday.

The 26-year-old player had finished his training routine at the club's facilities at around 7:30 p.m. and went back to the house he shared with a teammate. Bahtiyaroğlu's girlfriend was also with them at the residence.

Bahtiyaroğlu collapsed later in the night, prompting his teammate and girlfriend to call the emergency services. Paramedics who arrived at the scene saw that the young athlete was suffering a heart attack. Bahtiyaroğlu could not be saved despite the efforts of the first responders.

Eskişehirspor club doctor Mehmet Ali Armağan said Bahtiyaroğlu neither smoked nor drank alcohol.
"He had not gone through heavy training or anything," Armağan told reporters after the player's autopsy. "The certain cause of death will be determined after we receive the results of the autopsy.”
