Turkish education sector executive to receive UN award

Enver Yücel, the chairman of the board of trustees at Istanbul’s Bahçeşehir University, will receive a United Nations Correspondents Association (UNCA) Contribution to Global Education award at a Dec. 16 ceremony in New York.

U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is scheduled to grant Yücel, who is also the founder of large education company Bahçeşehir Uğur Eğitim Kurumları, the award, which is being distributed for the first time.

The Elizabeth Neuffer Memorial Prize, Ricardo Ortega Memorial Prize, Prince Albert II of Monaco and UNCA Global Prize and United Nations Foundation Prize will also be distributed to international journalists the same day.

Bill Clinton, Richard Branson, Angelina Jolie, Ted Turner, Nicholas Cage, Mira Sorvino, John Prendergast and Arnold Schwarzenegger are among the figures who were granted UNCA awards in various branches in previous years.
