The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) has warned its members of fraudsters on social media who are pretending to be investors from Brazil.

The con artists are particularly active on LinkedIn and Facebook, said Turkey’s largest business organization in a letter to its members last week, adding that the people in question have obtained the names of the executives of some Brazilian commodity companies.

They have sent fraudulent emails to companies in other countries, it said, calling on local businesses to inform the Sao Paulo Trade Attaché’s office in the event of any suspicions.

Trade between the two emerging economies stood at $2.5 billion in 2015. Turkey’s exports to Brazil dropped 42 percent in 2014, while imports from the Latin American country rose 3.7 percent.
