Locals in the Turkish border town of Ceylanpınar spent an anxious night as Syrian soldiers and opposition militants battled for control of the border post throughout last night, Doğan news agency has reported.

Two civilians in the town were reportedly wounded by shrapnel pieces which fell in a hospital's garden amid clashes.

Residents remained on edge in fear that the fight could spill into Turkey, while authorities also canceled school today as a precaution.

People wounded in the fight, meanwhile, were carried across the border to Ceylanpınar for treatment.

Locals were frequently warned to stay away from the border.

Armored vehicles have been lined up at the border post as a precaution.
