Turkish Airlines passenger numbers soar over 24 percent in July

The number of passengers carried by Turkish Airlines rose to 7.2 million in July with a 24.3 percent year-on-year increase, company data has showed. 

The increase in the number of passengers carried on domestic and international lines were 26.8 percent and 22.5 percent respectively, according to company results released on Aug. 11. 

Total load factor also rose by 10.5 points to 83.3 percent while international load factor increased by 10.7 percent in the mentioned period. 

During the period between January and July, the number of passengers carried increased by 4.6 percent to 37.5 million from 35.9 million passengers in the same period of 2016.  

The increase in the number of passengers carried on domestic and international lines are 5.6 percent and 3.8 percent respectively, according a statement by the company. 

Its load factor rose by 3.8 point to 77.4 percent in the first seven months of the year compared to the period of 2016. 

On Aug. 11, the company also announced a 194 million ($54.6 million) loss in the second quarter, showing a strong improvement compared to the same period in 2016 thanks to a rebound in passenger numbers and operating margins. 

Its loss was 656 million liras in the second quarter of 2016.
 
Turkish Airlines’ revenue soared to 9.4 billion liras in the second quarter of the year with a 32 percent year-on-year increase. Its first half revenue was announced 16.7 billion liras with a 23 percent year-on-year increase. 

The number of passengers carried by the national carrier showed a strong 13.5 percent year-on-year increase in June following a 4.5 percent year-on-year increase in May.
