HATAY

Chief of General Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar carried out inspections at military posts near the Syrian border on Oct. 13, as the Turkish Armed Forces entered Syria for a mission to set up observation points in northwest Idlib province as part of establishing “de-escalation zones” in the war-torn country.

Accompanied by the 2nd Army Commander Lt. Gen. Metin Temel and other military representatives, Gen. Akar first inspected military posts in the Reyhanlı district of the border province of Hatay before heading to the Cilvegözü Border gate to inspect troops in the buffer zone.

During his inspections, Akar was briefed about the military deployment to Idlib as well as regional developments.
