Turkey’s Sustainable Living Film Festival in 10 cities

ISTANBUL

Small People Big Cities

The Sustainable Living Film Festival (SLFF) will be celebrating its 10th year from Nov. 22 to 26 simultaneously in 10 cities across Turkey. The festival audience will be met with documentaries from Iran, Canada, the Netherlands, the Democratic Republic of Congo, France, Russia, Turkey, India, Spain, Israel, Palestine and the United Kingdom.

Organized by the Sustainable Living Collective, the festival has been held since 2008 for an improved understanding of the concept of sustainability and a better perception of systemic problems interacting with each other. It contributes to the creation of a new culture by sharing inspirational solutions.

The festival is a grassroots movement with an open and flexible structure that values diversity. The collective has been continuing to organize festivals with the support and participation of individuals and
organizations who share the vision of the Sustainable Living Collective.

The official selection consists of short and feature documentaries by filmmakers who have a passion for sharing stories, proving that change is possible.

The films cover complex global problems and inspiring stories of people who create local solutions all around the world, making the audience approach norms from different perspectives and bring them to their senses, keep their hope alive and invite them to take action: We can create a new culture, a new way of life!

The festival raises questions such as: “Can we produce renewable energy cheaper than energy from fossil fuels?” “Can our civilization survive without producing more plastics?” “Is it possible to produce chocolate without child slavery?” “Can we have fashion that conserves our ecosystem and supports society rather than harming all?” “Can we produce and use more local goods instead of shipping from far away?” “Can we provide affordable goods and services that people really need?” “Can we stop climate change and become resilient to its already present effects?” “Can circular economy become mainstream?” “Can we become more creative for sustainable food, i.e. introduce invasive species to our diet?” and “Can we have more meaningful jobs?”

The festival will be organized in 10 cities in collaboration with local non-governmental organizations and activists. The
cities include Antalya, Balıkesir, Bursa, Eskişehir, Istanbul,
İzmir, Kayseri, Kırklareli, Manisa and Mersin.

Documentaries will be followed by musicians, performances or speakers, who will bridge the subjects of films to the local agenda.

The festival films include “A Plastic Ocean,” “A Quest for Meaning,” “Small People Big Trees,” “Death by Design,” “Blind Sushi,” “The Chocolate Case,” “One Hundred Thousand Beating Hearts,” “The Island of All Together,” “The Rise of Sustainability” and many others.

All events are free of charge and open to the public.
