Turkey’s manpower costs are on the rise

Turkey’s manpower costs increased 10.3 percent in the second quarter of the year over the same period a year earlier, according to fresh data announced Sept. 10 in a “Manpower Cost Index” prepared by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) in line with European Union standards of using 2008 as the base year.

When examined on a sector by sector basis, both the industrial and services sectors saw a 10.8 percent rise in manpower costs while the construction sector registered a 5.7 percent increase. However, the largest spike in the manpower cost index was the 21 percent rise in the vocational, scientific and technical activities sector.

On a pay-per-hour basis, there was a 10.6 percent increase in manpower costs for the second quarter of 2012. Again, on a sector-by-sector basis the industrial sector saw a 10.7 percent rise in manpower costs, the services sector witnessed a 12.2 percent increase and the construction sector saw a 5.6 increase. Once more the vocational, scientific and technical activities sector registered a 22.3 percent increase coming in as the leader in manpower-per-hour costs.
