Turkey welcomes Mosul’s liberation from ISIL

ANKARA
Turkey has said it welcomes the re-capture of Mosul from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) by the Iraqi army and expressed its readiness to contribute to the restructuring of the war-torn city.

“We welcome the successful accomplishment of military operation that has been ongoing since October 2016 for the liberation of Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city, which has been under the occupation of the DAESH terror organization,” the Foreign Ministry said in a written statement on July 10, using an Arabic acronym for ISIL.

Recalling that Turkey has been sharing the pains of the Mosul people who come from different religious, sectarian and ethnic groups, the ministry underlined that Turkey will “continue to stand with the people of Mosul in the post-ISIL period.”

It also vowed that Turkey will continue its contribution to efforts to “eliminate the root causes of the emergence of radical groups like ISIL.”
