Turkey to found center against illegal streaming

ISTANBUL

A draft law suggests founding a center to block illegal movie streaming websites and platforms that illegally provide copyrighted artwork, daily Yeni Şafak has reported.

According to the draft, which the Culture Ministry has been preparing to present to parliament, the center will have the authority to shut down websites that illegally stream copyrighted works.

Websites will have to go through and complete procedures at the new center in order to legally publish artists’ copyrighted work such as movies, TV shows, compositions and books.

With the new legislation, the artist will have a right to file a lawsuit against the illegal providers of the work, and the center will have the authority to completely shut the platform down once the artist files a complaint at the Digital Rights’ Violations Prevention Center and prosecutors complete investigations.
