Turkey and Turkish Cyprus will work together to prepare an action plan to increase tourism to northern Cyprus, officials from both governments said June 22.

Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Nabi Avcı, who was received by Turkish Cyprus’ president and its parliamentary speaker on June 22 for an official visit to Turkish Cyprus, said the two were working on cooperating on culture and tourism.

Turkish Cypriot President Mustafa Akıncı received Avcı at the Presidential Palace Residence for Avcı’s first visit in his current post, which he assumed last month.

Separately, Avcı met with Parliamentary Speaker Sibel Siber in her office.

Siber also congratulated Avcı on his new post and stressed the importance of the two countries’ cooperation on tourism.

Siber said the two countries should work together to promote northern Cyprus as a tourism destination.

Turkish Ambassador to Turkish Cyprus Derya Kanbay, Turkish Cypriot Tourism and Environment Minister Fikri Ataoğlu and Presidential Undersecretary Gürdal Hüdaoğlu also participated in the closed-door meeting.
