Trump welcomes Türkiye-Saudi-Pakistan defense pact

WASHINGTON

U.S. President Donald Trump has welcomed the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement signed by Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, calling it a “big, bold and important first step.”

In a social media post, Trump said the pact showed that the Middle East was coming together and that countries would be able to defend themselves more effectively.

He congratulated the leaders of the three signatories, adding: “This is a big, bold and important first step. Incredible.”

The agreement was signed in Mecca on Aug. 7 by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

It states that an attack on one of the three countries will be treated as an attack on all.
