Trump invites Erdoğan to join Gaza peace council: Communications Directorate
ANKARA
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has been invited to join the Gaza peace council as a founding member through an invitation extended by U.S. President Donald Trump, Türkiye’s Communications Director Burhanettin Duran said on Jan. 17.
Duran said the development follows the adoption of U.N. Security Council Resolution 2803, which endorses the Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict, announced by Trump.
The resolution provides for the creation of a Board of Peace and related bodies tasked with ensuring security in Gaza and coordinating post-conflict reconstruction.
According to the statement, Trump, acting in his capacity as the chair of the Executive Board guiding the Board of Peace, sent a letter dated Jan. 16, formally proposing Erdoğan’s participation in the body as a founding member.
Duran added that the board will assume responsibility for both security arrangements and the rebuilding process in Gaza.
