Three alleged members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) were killed in clashes in the southeastern province of Tunceli yesterday.

A squadron of Turkish soldiers on patrol near the Ovacık district of Tunceli encountered a group of PKK militants at around 7:00 p.m.

A firefight erupted between the two sides after the militants refused the soldiers' calls to surrender. Three militants were killed in the clashes.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union.
