Three people are in the running to replace Şakir Ercan Gül, the outgoing president of the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF), according to the Anatolia news agency.

Fund board members Recep Süleyman Özdil and Mukin Öztekin, as well as one other person who is believed to be a civil servant from Ankara, are all hoping to replace Gül.

Rasih Muhammet Danış, a board member, will also leave his post on the same day.

The Cabinet chooses the TMSF’s presidents and board members. Abdullah Demiröz, the vice president of TMSF, will be the acting president until the Cabinet assigns a new figure while the incoming president is expected to take office at the beginning of March.

The TMSF president and members of the board cannot become involved in enterprises turned over to the TMSF for two years after leaving their posts. The fund currently handles over 50,000 cases.

Gül started his tenure in February 2010 and will leave the post Feb. 29.
