Thousands flock to waterpark in Turkey’s İzmir during Eid al-Fitr holiday

İZMİR
Thousands of locals in the western coastal province of İzmir flocked to the Aquacity waterpark in the Balçova district over the course of the Eid al-Fitr holiday, in a bid to cool off amid rising temperatures and high humidity levels.

Around 6,000 people visited the waterpark over two days, Doğan News Agency reported on June 27.

İzmir, which is famous for its sweltering summers, has seen temperatures hit 40°C in recent days.

Many local residents opted to flee to nearby coastal towns around the Aegean metropolis, but many who stayed flocked to Aquacity, which includes 22 different slides, a rafting river, grassy areas, and a semi-Olympic size pool.
