‘The Book Lab’ opens at Poligon

ISTANBUL

“The Book Lab” is based on the concept of Lezmi’s project “Sunday Books,” in which he sits down on a Sunday morning looking for images on his hard disk and then spends the day editing, printing, cutting and gluing.

Following the initial concept of Poligon as an open workspace for artistic experiments, Frederic Lezmi will host “The Book Lab,” a workshop for artists at Poligon’s “The Shooting Gallery” Feb. 7 to 28.

The project will transform the gallery into a book lab, a place to work, to think, to experiment, to discuss, to play around and to come up with new ideas, all centered around books as a medium of artistic expression in its broadest sense. It is based on the concept of Lezmi’s project “Sunday Books,” in which he sits down on a Sunday morning looking for images on his hard disk and then spends the day editing, printing, cutting and gluing.

The goal is to have a dummy of a new book in his hand by the end of the day. It is about quick decisions and working with accessible materials and with a sort of easiness that gets lost in long-term book projects.
