An accident occured during a test drive on the new Kartal-Kadıköy subway line, which will be the first underground rail line on the Asian side of Istanbul, daily Hürriyet reported today.

A subway train reportedly moved off from Kartal leaving one wagon behind at the station. The train then crashed into to the wagon when it returned back to Kartal, causing minor damage.

The subway line is expected to be opened for Istanbul residents during the Şeker Bayram holiday at the end of the month of Ramadan, in August.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan kicked off the construction of the tunnel in 2005.
