The consortium of the Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) has made a decision regarding the contractors for the pipeline’s overland construction, the consortium announced in a written statement Dec. 23.

The winners are Fernas Construction, the Sicim-Yüksel-Akkord consortium and Tekfen Construction, said the statement.

Tekfen Holding said yesterday its construction unit Tekfen Construction secured a $565 million deal as part of TANAP in a statement to the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP).

The deal will involve building a 509 km (316 miles) section of the 56-inch pipeline and will be completed in three years, Tekfen said.

The TANAP project envisages gas transportation from Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz II field through Turkey and up to the country’s border with Europe.

The initial capacity of TANAP is expected to be 16 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas per year, gradually increasing to 31 bcm.

Around 6 bcm of gas will be delivered to Turkey, and the remaining volume will be supplied to Europe.
The gas will arrive in Turkey by 2018, and after the construction of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) the gas will reach Europe by early 2020.
