Tahsin Yücel wins award for literature

The French-Turkish Literature Award has been given to novelist Tahsin Yücel.

The French-Turkish Literature Award was handed to novelist Tahsin Yücel on Nov. 28. Yücel has translated a large number of novels from French into Turkish, and is also a novelist in his own right.

The award will be presented in December at the Paris Culture and Tourism Office.

Gathered together under the presidency of Kenize Murad, the jury was composed of “College de France” Professor Gilles Veinztein, author Venus Khoury and Nedim Gursel, literature professor Timur Muhittin, Gaye Petek, known for her work on migration and integration, and political scientist Ali Kazancigil.

Yücel was born in Elbistan in 1933. After studying at Galatasaray High School in Istanbul he received his bachelor’s degree from the Istanbul University French Literature.
