A step-father of twin girls in Istanbul committed suicide after killing his wife and her two daughters late on May 21.

The incident took place in Esenler district’s Fevzi Çakmak neighborhood at around 11 p.m. Erol Ayaz, 50, allegedly shot his wife, 45-year-old Melek Ayaz, and 17-year-old step-daughters Eda and Seda Çapan after reportedly suffering an attack of hysteria.

One of the bullets first hit the window and then a car parked on the street.

It was determined that Erol Ayaz shot himself with the last bullet.

After hearing the shooting noises, neighbors called police and asked for an ambulance. A large number of police were deployed to the site.

Police entered the house from the balcony on the back side of the building and found Ayaz, his wife and the girls lying on the floor.

The medical team pronounced three of them dead at the scene, while Eda Çapan was transported to hospital with serious injuries but later succumbed to her wounds.

The bodies were taken to the Forensic Medicine Institution for an autopsy.

A crime scene investigation team came to the venue and inspected the scene, while police took security measures on the street until the examination was completed.

A friend of the daughters from school said she came to the scene immediately after she heard about the incident.

“They were really nice girls. We were at the same school. I was in the same class with one of them. They were in our school approximately for a year. I had seen them cry several times,” she said.
