Two sons of Hüseyin Üzmez, a sexual abuse convict and former columnist of the hardline Islamist daily Yeni Akit who died last year, have refused any inheritance from their father.

The sons, identified only as A. and M.F. Üzmez, claimed no rights on their father’s estate, Cihan news agency has reported.

Üzmez, who was convicted of sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl and was sentenced to 13 years and 1.5 months in jail in 2009, died in a private hospital in Ankara on Oct. 14 last year at 83.

The former columnist was discharged from Metris prison in Istanbul at the start of the month due to ill health and psychological problems.

Üzmez was first convicted in 1952 for shooting a writer when he was a high school student and served 10 years in jail.

In 2003, he married a 22-year-old. He was known for his hardline Islamist columns, which frequently dealt with moral issues.
