One police officer was injured on June 28 during a shootout between two suspects who are thought to have been the assailants in another recent attack on a police station in Istanbul. One of the suspects managed to escape while other one was detained.

Two suspects had thrown a hand grenade at a police station in Istanbul’s İstinye neighborhood on June 12 and sprayed the building with automatic pistol fire.

The police reportedly stopped a suspicious taxi on Friday in Sarıyer district but the two people in the car opened fire on the police, pushing the taxi driver to continue driving.

Istanbul Governor Hüseyin Avni Mutlu said “a member of an illegal organization was detained and a police officer was injured in the incident.” Mutlu also said the injured officer’s state of health was good.

The investigation to find the other attacker is continuing.
