At least seven people were killed and 34 others were injured on March 7 when a bus carrying members of a labor union from the northwestern province of Bursa to Ankara suffered an accident in Bursa’s İnegöl district, Doğan News Agency has reported.

The bus, which was carrying a group of workers from the Turkish Metal Union to celebrate March 8 International Women’s Day events in the capital, failed to negotiate a bend near the Mezitler area, resulting in the vehicle overturning.

A number of ambulances, firefighters and rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the scene. İnegöl District Gov. Ali Akça, İnegöl police chief Şükrü Kaplan and İnegöl Chief Public Prosecutor Mustafa Çelenk all arrived at the site to conduct inspections.

Akça later stated that seven workers who had been working at automotive supply factories in Bursa were killed in the accident.

Meanwhile, a convoy of around 250 women also set out from Bursa to celebrate International Women’s Day events in Ankara.
