Security forces clashed with alleged members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) on Mount Cudi in the southeastern province of Şırnak today, broadcaster NTV reported on its website.

Thousands of troops, supported by helicopters and artillery, took part in an operation on the mountain, the report said.

Local sources allegedly said the clashes continued after dark and soldiers on the mountain were being reinforced by additional troops.

Deputies from Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) and NGO members went to Şırnak after learning about the clashes, the report said.

Local officials and MPs could not confirm the reports to the Hürriyet Daily News.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union.
