Renowned Turkish wrestler bags gold medal in Azerbaijan

Renowned Turkish wrestler Taha Akgül won a gold medal June 18 in the European Games in the Azerbaijani capital of Baku.

Competing in the 125-kilogram freestyle category, Akgül defeated Belarus’ Aleksei Shemarov to bag Turkey’s second gold of the games.
      
The United World Wrestling (UWW) awarded Akgül the title of best wrestler in the world in the 125-kg freestyle category in October 2014.
      
The 24-year-old wrestler won a gold medal in the World Championships in Uzbekistan in September 2014, and in April 2014, he became a three-time European champion in Vantaa, Finland.
      
On June 13, Rıza Kayaalp won a gold medal for Turkey in 130-kg Greco-Roman wrestling.
      
On June 18, Turkish Taekwondo competitor Nur Tatar won a bronze medal in the 67-kg women’s category by beating France’s Haby Niare.
