Policeman injured in PKK attack succumbs to wounds

A special operations officer who was wounded in an outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) attack on Feb. 5 has succumbed to his injuries at the Gülhane Military Medical Academy (GATA) where he was being treated. 

The officer, identified as 41-year-old Kemal Yılmaz, was wounded in a PKK attack in the southeastern province of Şırnak’s Cizre province. 

Yılmaz was sent to GATA’s hospital in Ankara for treatment but he died of his injuries exactly a week after the attack.

A policeman for 17 years, Yılmaz was sent to Cizre on temporary duty on Dec. 12. 

Yılmaz’s funeral is set to be held in his hometown of Konya in Central Anatolia on Feb. 12.
