Turkish police have seized 23 tons of marijuana in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır, breaking an all-time record for the confiscation of the largest amount of the illegal substance in a single operation.

The drugs were seized in Lice district’s Bağlan village where 10 tons and 500 kilograms of drugs were found in another operation last week.

The “narco-terror” operation was conducted by the anti-smuggling and organized crime department of the Diyarbakır Police Department and the province’s gendarmerie forces, including a helicopter team.

The seized drugs, reportedly worth 6 million Turkish Liras, were taken to Diyarbakır Police Department’s garden by trucks.
