One police officer was killed on Jan. 22 during clashes with outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants in the Cizre district of southeastern Şırnak province.

Special operations police officer Bayram Özdere was killed when PKK militants opened fire during intense clashes in the district’s Sur neighborhood.

It has been revealed that Özdere was temporarily on duty in Cizre.

A curfew has been imposed on the district since Dec. 14, 2015, in order to cover up ditches and remove barricades set up by PKK militants.
