Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s fourth grandchild was born in Istanbul on Nov. 14. Ali Tahir is the second son of the prime minister’s younger son, Bilal Erdoğan, and his wife, Reyyan. Erdoğan has one grandson and one granddaughter from his eldest daughter, Esra.

The baby was born at the Medipol Mega Hospital in the Istanbul’s Bağcılar district. Prime Minister Erdoğan announced his grandson’s name in an event marking the month of Muharrem, an Alevi holiday celebrated in the first month of the Islamic calendar. The name is an apparent reference to the Caliph Ali who inspired the Alevi faith.

Erdoğan reportedly flew to Istanbul from Ankara for the occasion.
