PKK attack kills soldier in Turkey’s east

A lieutenant was killed in an outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) attack in the Genç district of the eastern province of Bingöl on June 24.

Lt. Arif Kalafat and two other soldiers were wounded when a hidden home-made explosive was detonated by PKK militants during a security operation late on June 23. 

The soldiers were taken to Bingöl State Hospital and Kalafat was transferred to Fırat University Hospital in the eastern province of Elazığ, where he succumbed to his injuries on June 24.
