Over 20 PKK vehicles to be used in potential car bomb attacks seized in Turkey’s Lice

Security forces have seized 22 vehicles that were stolen and were suspected to be used in potential attacks of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), as part of an extensive operation against the group in the Lice district of the southeastern province of Diyarbakır.

The vehicles, most of which are luxury brands, were taken to secured zones by security teams. 

As part of the operations in Lice, security forces also seized over 19 tons of ready-to-use ammonium nitrate and drugs worth over 16 billion Turkish Liras. 

Sources have said that since the operations began in Lice, over 62 million cannabis roots and over 13 tons of powdered cannabis have been destroyed.

Security forces concluded their operation in the area, which began on June 23, on July 3. 

Meanwhile, one soldier was killed late on July 2 in an outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) attack in the Beytüşşebap district of the southeastern province of Şırnak.

A group of PKK militants simultaneously attacked the district security directorate, gendarmerie command post and military lodgings with long-barreled weapons and rocket propelled grenades.

Non-commissioned officer İsmail Demir was wounded in the attack and later succumbed to his injuries at Beytüşşebap State Hospital.

Security forces conducted an operation in the region to apprehend the fleeing militants.

The district governor’s office announced on July 3 that it had declared a curfew starting from 1. a.m. until further notice to apprehend the militants.

Meanwhile, another soldier was wounded late on June 2 during clashes with PKK militants in the rural area of the Genç district of the eastern province of Bingöl.

One specialized sergeant was wounded when an armed clash erupted between security forces conducting a search and PKK militants.

The wounded soldier was immediately taken to Bingöl State Hospital in a helicopter and is reported to be in a stable condition.
