Opposition deputy offers Interior Minister tear gas canister 'vase'

ANKARA

Main opposition deputy Aylin Nazlıaka offered a little 'vase canister' to encourage Güler to stop police violence.

A tear gas canister creatively turned into a "vase" was given to Interior Minister Muammer Güler during today's  parliamentary session, in reference to the week-long protests that have engulfed Turkey.

Unlike the thousands of demonstrators who recently took to the streets, there was nothing to worry about for Güler, as the canister was not fired but rather gallantly offered by main opposition deputy Aylin Nazlıaka. The canister had been converted into a "vase," containing beautiful spring carnations.

Güler is one of the figures at the center of criticisms due to the excessive use of tear gas against protesters, but courteously accepted the gift, chatted with Nazlıaka for a while in the General Assembly room.

According to doctors, the carnations symbolized Abdullah Cömert, the 22-year-old who was killed in the southern province of Hatay after a gas canister exploded and hit him in the head.

Nazlıaka later said via Twitter that her little "vase canister" was intended to encourage Güler to stop police violence.
