One arrested in case of armed assault on Turkish media group head

One of the six suspects transferred to court in the case into the Aug. 20 armed assault targeting the chairman of the Star media outlet Murat Sancak was arrested on Oct. 16.

The 1st criminal court of peace ruled for the arrest of the suspect, identified only by the initials T.Ü., over “attempted voluntary manslaughter,” while the other five were released.

On Oct. 16, police detained another three suspects along with a retired superintendent who was allegedly the instigator of the assault, following suspects’ testimonies. The weapons used in the attack were also seized.

Three suspects were taken to an Istanbul court with the retired superintendent, while the other three were still being interrogated.  

Sancak was caught in crossfire on Aug. 20 along with his bodyguard and driver in Istanbul’s Hadımköy district at around 12:00 p.m. According to the police investigation, a total of 21 bullets hit their car, but Sancak and his bodyguards managed to survive the attack and no casualties were reported.
