Geneva auto show

European automotive players are aiming to revive their declining sector with a display of the newest models at the Geneva Auto Show amid a bid by Turkey to attract investments through a incentive system.

The Geneva Auto Show is one of the five largest fairs in the world and is also one of the oldest, this year marking its 83rd appearance.

This year’s show has a crucial significance for the Turkish government as well as the automotive sector, as it provides an opportunity to test-drive the new investment scheme in Turkey after recently introducing government incentives.

Turkish Economy Minister Zafer Çağlayan will be in Geneva today to hold face-to-face talks with executives of German giant car manufacturer Volkswagen, in a bid to persuade the company to establish a production facility in Turkey.

The minister said Volkswagen was not investing in Turkey, despite its cars being the top sellers, and is calling on the company to consider the possibilities offered by the country.

Volkswagen is evaluating possible opportunities in Turkey but there is currently no regulation or agreement on the issue, a company spokesperson said.
