Ministry investigates boosted school grades

ISTANBUL
A number of prominent private schools in Istanbul have been raided by Turkish education ministry officials over allegations of illegally boosting students’ grades.

Some of the examined schools, including some chain schools, have been discovered of giving undeserved high grades to their students, with the intention of raising the students’ success in nation-wide university and high school entrance exams. The investigation kicked-off four months ago by ministry inspectors commissioned by the Education Minister Nabi Avcı and has been recently completed with a comprehensive report on the issue presented to Avcı.

Avcı has reportedly asked ministry officials “to obviate the injustice” emerged from cheating through raising grades in July. The issue was put in front of him ever since he came to office last January, forcing him to launch the investigation. Ministry officials have examined notebooks and any related document, one by one.
