The Tourism and Culture Ministry allocates money to purchase books.

The Culture and Tourism Ministry has announced plans to buy 900,000 publications for public libraries with a budget of 10 million Turkish Liras.

A total of 117 public libraries are set to benefit from the project, with a sum of 903,000 works being earmarked for purchase.

According to a written statement made by the ministry, a selection committee consisting of writers and publishers will gather to choose new titles from both contemporary and classic authors.

In 2005, the ministry purchased 79,000 books; one year later, it bought 326,000. In 2008, the figure was 514,000, according to figures.
