The Nationalist Movement Party’s (MHP) strict objection to negotiation as a tool to deal with terrorism dominated a holiday meeting yesterday between MHP and ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) executives.

An MHP delegation led by deputy chair Mevlüt Karakaya visited AKP headquarters for an Eid al-Adha, or Feast of Sacrifice, greeting. Karakaya said terror was a threat to the unity of the nation and urgently needed to be ended. AKP deputy chair Mehmet Ali Şahin responded that the government was determined in its fight against terror.

Karakaya’s response to these comments was clear. “We should stay away from negotiation on the terror issue. Launching negotiations instead of a struggle led to a weakness in the stance of the region’s people on this issue,” he said.
