Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, leader of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), renewed his A-team on May 8 by appointing Istanbul Deputy Gürsel Tekin as the new secretary-general of the social democrats.

The move came after the CHP failed to perform well at the March 30 local elections and on the eve of the upcoming presidential elections in August. Kılıçdaroğlu explained the reshuffle as a need commonly expressed by the party’s various executive branches.

With the change in place, Tekin will serve as the new secretary-general instead of Adnan Keskin.
Tekin’s previous position, as deputy leader responsible for party organization, will be carried out by Tekin Bingöl.

Haluk Koç, the CHP’s spokesperson, became deputy leader responsible for financial and administrative affairs while Veli Ağbaba was appointed as deputy leader responsible for local administrations.
The new members of the Central Executive Board (MYK) are Seyhan Erdoğdu, Emel Yıldırım, Burhan Şenatalar and Aytun Çıray.

Deputy leaders Emrehan Halıcı, Erdoğan Toprak, Şafak Pavey, Faruk Loğoğlu, Bülent Tezcan, Sezgin Tanrıkulu, Yakup Akkaya, Faik Öztrak, Sencer Ayata will continue on in their roles at the MYK.

Four members of the CHP’s Elections Committee have also been removed, amid increasing pressure from the party’s local branches after the disappointing performance in the March 30 local elections.
