Two armed assailants attacked a four-story police station in Istanbul early Aug. 21, but no casualties were reported.

The assailants opened fire with long-barreled weapons on the Kıraç police station in the Esenyurt district of Istanbul at around 6:40 a.m. They fled the scene when police immediately responded to the attack.

Witnesses said they first heard a single gunshot which was then followed by a series of shots. They said a short clash erupted between police and the assailants as the police returned fire.

In the aftermath of the attack, police forces, along with a special operations team, conducted an operation to apprehend the fleeing assailants with the support of helicopters.

Police officers also searched nearby houses and apartment gardens for the assailants.
