A series of lightning strikes across the country has killed three people and injured 19 others as most of Turkey is affected by heavy rains and storms.

Lightning hit a tree under which citizens had taken refuge May 23 in the western province of Denizli’s Kale district, killing one and injuring three others, while a similar incident in the eastern province of Batman killed two bothers.

The victims in Kale were agricultural workers at a tobacco plantation.

In Batman, 18-year-old Müslüm Çöl and his 12-year-old brother, İsmail, were working in their vineyard when they attempted to take shelter under a tree due to heavy rains.

Meanwhile, 16 people were injured in the same province's Kozluk district on May 23 during a visit to a tomb when a lightning strike hit the area. None of the victims' injuries were life-threatening, Doğan news agency reported.
