Officials in Kütahya are hoping to attract more tourists following the completion of a road linking to the inner Aegean province’s “Fairy Valley,” which features rock formations reminiscent of Cappadocia’s famous fairy chimneys.

“We feel honored to contribute to the promotion of this natural wonder to the service of citizens as the Forestry Management Directorate,” Enver Yıldırım, the director of Simav Forestry Management Directorate, recently said in a statement. “I believe that we did our responsibility by taking care of the Fairy Chimneys similar to those in [the Central Anatolian region of Cappadocia] for the benefit of citizens.”

The Fairy Valley was declared an archaeological site last year, Yıldırım said. The directorate recently completed a 2.6 km road to the area, he said, adding that the road would help tourists reach the valley, facilitate firefighting in the region and aid in the extraction of timber.

Mehmet Çakır, the mayor of the local town of Yeniköy, echoed Yıldırım’s comments, saying they were happy that the newly constructed road would facilitate transportation to the fairy chimneys.

The town is now expecting more foreign and domestic tourists to visit as the Kütahya fairy chimneys gain increasing recognition. Çakır also said it was administration’s responsibility to provide necessary services.
