Journalist and former parliamentarian Nazlı Ilıcak, who was among 42 people for whom a detention warrant was issued as part of post-coup attempt crackdown operations, was detained in the Bodrum district of the Aegean province of Muğla early on July 26.

Found in a vehicle in the Bodrum-Torba intersection, Ilıcak was taken to the Bodrum Police Station and was set to be sent to Istanbul for further legal actions.

Five other journalists, namely Yakup Sağlam, İbrahim Balta, Seyit Kılıç, Bayram Kaya and Cihan Acar, were also detained in operations.

Ilıcak was among 42 journalists who were sought as a part of ongoing investigations against members of the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), which the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) says was behind the July 15 failed coup attempt. The detention warrants were issued by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office’s Terrorism and Organized Crime Bureau.
