Istanbul’s working class suburbs have become grounds of recruitment for the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), a Newsweek article published Sept. 12 has shown.

The report has collected several testimonies from family members whose loved ones have been recruited by ISIL, particularly from Dilovası, a remote industrial suburb located on Istanbul’s Asian side.

According to the article, two minibuses heading for Syria recently left the town and the brother of one of the new recruits warned that many more were joining. “The police are doing nothing to stop them from joining,” he said.
