Istanbul is welcoming the world starting today for two weeks of key discussions on the future of the
globe’s forests.

Ministers and delegates from 197 countries will gather in Turkey’s largest city for the 10th edition of the United Nations Forum on Forests, a U.N. initiative launched in 2000 to promote the management, conservation and sustainable development of all types of forests while strengthening political commitment in the field.

The event is being co-chaired by Turkish Forestry and Water Works Minister Veysel Eroğlu and Ecuadorian Environment Minister Marcela Aguinaga Vallejo.

The Turkish ministry will also present a short film to participants to outline the current state of forestry in the county.
