Istanbul Modern Cinema celebrates Year of Dragon

A scene from ‘Forever Enthralled,’ which will be shown as part of the Chinese film program at Istanbul Modern Cinema.

As part of the Chinese Culture Year in Turkey, Istanbul Modern Cinema, in cooperation with Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, will present a program that brings together seven films from Chinese cinema. The event will open tomorrow at 7 p.m. with a breathtaking Chinese acrobatic show. The films to be shown until March 29 are as follows:

“Confucius,” which tells the life story of the highly-influential Chinese philosopher, Confucius.
“Walking to School,” the story of Naxiang (Anamuling), the teenage daughter of a Lisu minority family, who can only attend school using a rusty old zip line across a dangerous river.

“The Message,” which follows a series of assassination attempts on officials of the Japanese-controlled puppet government. The Japanese spy chief then gathers a group of suspects in a mansion house for questioning.

“Go La la Go!” a romantic comedy film about a woman who learns how to balance a relationship and professionalism in the work place.

“Dreams of Jinsha,” the story of a modern day middle-school student, who, after being transported 3,000 years back in time to the ancient kingdom of Jinsha, and discovers his true destiny.

“Bodyguards and Assassins,” the story of the revolutionary Sun Wen, who intends to visit Hong Kong to discuss his plans for revolution with fellow Tongmenghui members.

“Forever Enthralled,” a period drama following the story of Mei Lanfang (1894-1961), a Peking opera singer of such virtuosity that his fame spread worldwide.

All films in the program will be in Chinese with Turkish subtitles.
