Turkey’s meteorological service has warned Istanbul residents and visitors that the heat wave currently hitting the country is expected to continue today, noting that the mercury is expected to push 41 degrees Celsius in the city.

Today will be the hottest day of summer in Turkey, particularly in Istanbul, due to a heat wave that will arrive from North Africa and last for a week, according to estimates, meteorological experts said.

Antalya is expected to record temperatures of 47 degrees, while İzmir will see 45 degrees, reports said.

Orhan Şen from the Department of Meteorological Engineering at Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ) said today, tomorrow and Aug. 30 would be the hottest days of the year.

The weather will cool off slightly come the weekend, and rain is expected on Sept. 1.

Experts said people suffering from high blood pressure or cardiac complaints, as well as the elderly, should remain indoors from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today.
