Israeli settlers injure Palestinians, set fire to West Bank homes

At least nine Palestinians were injured in two attacks by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank on Aug. 5, while several homes were set on fire in a community south of Hebron, Palestinian officials said.

Three Palestinians were beaten and injured when settlers entered the eastern part of Beit Furik, east of Nablus, the official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

The agency said the settlers entered the area under the protection of Israeli soldiers.

In Khirbet al-Tuba, in the Masafer Yatta area south of Hebron, armed settlers attacked residents and set fire to several homes, according to WAFA.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said six people, including three women, suffered bruises and were taken to hospital.

Several other residents, including women and children, were affected by smoke inhalation.

Israeli forces separately carried out raids in several parts of the West Bank and northern East Jerusalem.

In al-Bireh near Ramallah, troops forced three families from their homes in the Sateh Marhaba neighborhood and converted the buildings into military outposts, WAFA said.

Forces also entered the nearby Umm al-Sharayet neighborhood, blocked a main road and conducted searches.

Raids were also reported near Ramallah and Bethlehem. In the Qalandiya refugee camp and nearby Kafr Aqab, north of Jerusalem, a military operation continued for around 19 hours. Local Palestinian media said about 15 people, including a woman, were detained, although some were later released after questioning.
